When Should I Pressure Wash My House?

We often get asked by new homeowners, When should I pressure wash my house? If you live in the South and its early Spring, you should wait and we are here to tell you why!

Spring is in the air, the birds are returning, the flowers are blooming and we are all feeling anxious to get outside and enjoy the outdoors! Especially after a cold, wet winter like what we had in Raleigh, North Carolina. Winters in the South bring a lot of precipitation and mud. You may be anxious to clean away all of the dirt and grime, BUT…

I urge you, PLEASE WAIT!

When Should I Pressure Wash My House in Raleigh NC?

If you are new to the area, you may not have experienced this… yet. But if you have lived in the Triangle (or any Southern state for that matter), then you know, THE POLLEN IS COMING! Cue Jaws intro music. Every year, between March and April, our entire state gets covered in tree pollen. I’m talking a blanket of yellow dust that will cover every surface of your property. If you have allergies, may God help you! If you don’t have allergies, you might develop them! It is a scene straight out of a horror film that just comes with living in the Oak City.

What is it? Well as it turns out, pollen is kind of crucial for our environment. Pollen is basically the result of mating season for trees, plants and flowers. According to Healthline, pollen is a very fine powder produced to fertilize other plants of the same species. The yellow powdery pollen that we experience so heavily in North Carolina is a result of the Pine Trees. After all, we are the Pine Tree State! According to NCSU, pollen production usually peaks in mid-April. To be a North Carolinian, there are some sacrifices we must make to live in such a lush and colorful environment; one of these sacrifices is the dreaded pollen season.

But What if I Have to Wash My House During Pollen Season?

Now I understand that there are certain circumstances that will require a House Wash before pollen season ends. For example, listing a home during March or April. You will have to wash the house and concrete prior to pictures for the listing. Luckily, if you must pressure wash during pollen season, a light follow-up rinse will remove any new pollen residue collecting on the recently cleaned surface. However, it is unlikely a house will sit long in the Triangle market, but if need be, a homeowner can simply rinse off the house prior to showings.

So When is the Best Time to Wash My House?

Hold steady, and wait until mid-April or May to wash your house. If you only pressure wash once a year, washing your house at the end of Spring will give you the most value for your dollar.
